The middle ear and mastoid air cells are hypoplastic. The ossicles are dysplastic and malpositioned. The stapes is displaced inferiorly and fused to the floor of the middle ear. The facial nerve descends too far anteriorly in the coronal plane at the level of the basal turn of the cochlea with anterior displacement of the descending portion of the facial nerve through the atresia plate. The tympanic membrane is not seen.
